Meet our NEBees™

NEB has always placed environmental stewardship as one of our highest priorities – one of our goals has been to continuously improve our business processes in order to minimize our impact on the environment.

At NEB, we are motivated by a set of core, foundational values that are as true today as they were when the company was founded in 1974:

  • Science should be used to expand our understanding of the world around us
    • Scientists can also act as humanitarians
      • All species, great and small, benefit when we care for the environment
        • Great science is fundamentally creative and artistic, and changes the way we see and experience the world

While passion for science helps us to drive discovery, we continue to be guided by our responsibility to each other and our community, both locally and globally, to work towards a more just world.

With that in mind, in spring of this year, New England Biolabs UK, in partnership with The Honeybee Man Ltd sponsored the setting up of two new honeybee colonies in an apiary in Weston, Hertfordshire. Along with this sustainable beekeeping company, we will help to drive an increase in the UK honeybee population.

Staff Experience Day

It’s not every day you witness a honeybee birthday (unless you’re a bee keeper maybe) but that’s exactly what happened when a group of staff from NEB UK went on our first visit to our new honeybee hives on a farm in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside. We saw a bee emerge from its cell, learnt all sorts of fascinating facts about the life cycle of the honeybee and the organization of the hive, and we got to handle the frames covered in wax, honey and bees - they're quite heavy!

If you are interested, you can learn more about honey bee hives on the British Bee Keeping Association website.
